WE'RE BACK!!!!
That's right. The honeymoon is officially over and it back to
work for the both of us:-(
Below are a few pictures of our trip. We really had a blast and
strongly recommend a cruise
as a way to go. You unpack once in your cabin and then visit
all these neat places. In fact, we
liked it sooooo much, we are planning on a cruise
to France, Italy and Spain!
The key, we think, to enjoying your cruise is selecting the right line.
We took the Celebrity cruise line.
I was totally impressed and satisfied with their professionalism, courteousness,
and helpfulness. The
ship was super clean and the staff immensely helpful. They really
did bend over backwards for us
(I sure hope that Victor's back healed without lasting consequences...LOL).
The food on the Century
was unbelievable. In fact, it was better than many expensive
restaurants I've been to. The best part was
that if I did not like something or just wasn't satisfied with it,
it is immediately replaced with another
dish on the menu. We talked to one couple on the Century who
had cruised over 19 times. They liked
the Celebrity ships the best. Basically, they believed that everything
on the Celebrity ships is just a little
nicer and better than the other ships they had been on. For example,
the closet space in the rooms
was bigger, the rooms were nicer and cleaner, the staff more friendly
and helpful, the ship more
appealing, the amenities maintained better, etc. Our only negative
was that the nightlife was more
older oriented. The music was lots of disco and 70's/early 80's
stuff. We really wanted to go hang out
with the teens and their dance music. Of course, this is because
it was tailored to most of the people
on board, who happened to be more mature and older. If nightlife
is your passion, make sure you
investigate the particular ship you choose to see if it meets your
tastes and interests.
We hope this helps you out in picking your cruise.
Here's a picture of Kimber and I after we disembarked the tender to shore in St. Maarten. Notice how fresh and full of energy we look. Well, you should have seen us at the end of the day. I thought they were going to have to bag me up and transport me to the ship as if I were a piece of luggage. BTW, isn't Kimber's hat just the cutest! It was quite easy to find someone willing to take our photo. Lots of helpful, friendly people in the islands. Of course, they'd love to sell you just about anything too. Commerce is certainly a big deal in the ports. Ships mean tourists and tourists mean money. A truth not wasted on the residents of these islands. They were all super nice, particularly our cab driver who took us to the French city of Phillipsburg and waited while we shopped at the open market and did some looking around. In fact, on the way, he showed us several sites of interest and stopped to let us take photos. He was wonderful!! |
Here's a picture of our ship sitting in St. Maarten Bay. Unlike all the other ports of call, the ship could not dock at this island. What happened is that a floating dock with stair way plank was set down in the water. You walked out a little door (kinda like the ones you see in old war movies involving ships) and down the stairway to the floating dock. From there, you boarded a "tender" to the shore. I thought the term "tender" used to refer to the, well, water taxis was funny. LOOK AT THAT WATER!!

Here's a picture of Kimber in San Juan, Puerto Rico. You can really see the boat well in this picture. The weather was perfect.....could not have asked for any better. Sunglasses and a hat area must! Otherwise, it might be very uncomfortable. San Juan was a nice place. The water area was not nearly as nice or pretty as St. Maarten, but the city has some beautiful architecture, just like St. Thomas. We spent a lot of time just walking around the city and looking at the items in the stores. I found a Nautica bathing suit on clearance in one store for $15. What a deal! |
Here's a picture of Kimber at Sunset. We arrived in San Juan, Puerto Rico around 6pm and were due to leave around midnight. The sky and the sunset was just beautiful there. The ship docked next to a welcome/visitor's center that had a couple of store in it, including liquor stores. If you like Rum or other types of liquor, Puerto Rico is where you need to buy it. The ship's guides like to tell you St. Thomas (because you can buy more of it duty free there), but when we arrived back in the states, no one checked our box to see how much or where our bottles came from. DO NOT BUY WINE. Our experience is that while the liquor is a good deal, wine is not. Much cheaper in the states. |
Here is a picture of Kimber and I in the Grand Foyer of the Celebrity Century. We were on our way to dinner on a formal night. We had 2 of these on our weeklong cruise. The ship was very nice and on formal nights everybody got into the act of dressing up, even the servers, and stewards, and captain. |

Travel Services arranged by
If you are considering a cruise, PLEASE give Lucky a call. I
dealt with numerous
travel agents and Lucky was by far the MOST knowledgeable and MOST
helpful. Lucky
asked me a lot of questions to determine my cruise experience and the
type of ship Kimber
and I would be comfortable on. He knew about all the ports of
call and made a number
of suggestions about places in St. Thomas to shop and MUST DO activities
on St.
Maarten. Lucky also knew all about the ships. Based upon
his experience, he felt
that the Celebrity line would be more suitable for us. The beauty
of it is that
although a 5 star cruise line, Lucky got us a 3 star price. I
can honestly say that
if Kimber and I like this cruise (and I have no reason to believe we
won't), I
will DEFINITELY book with Lucky again. I guarantee you that you
will be more
than satisfied with Lucky's service. Thanks to Lucky for making
the Honeymoon
Planning a breeze!
